While the Outright application doesn't handle currency conversion, it does integrate with a provider that can convert a variety of currencies to and from the US dollar: PayPal is the entity that handles the currency conversion.
If you'd like, you can actually download the CSV from PayPal to see how they are handling it on the back end. This back end also should list the components of the net amounts they're sending to Outright. These components of the currency conversion are added or subtracted from your PayPal balance based on a rate that changes constantly, but the conversion is computed only ONCE for a particular transaction. These additions and subtractions are counted as "adjustments" to your Outright account. Because Outright has no way of doing currency conversions itself, it simply pulls the numbers straight from PayPal and records the adjustments.
In a nutshell, the conversion adjustments from PayPal are correct, they're just a bit difficult to understand, and the dynamics of currency conversion are too large for the scope of this article. However, if you have specific questions about a specific currency conversion transaction in your ledger, please get the CSV file from your PayPal account, and send it into support@outright.com; we're happy to explain in further detail.
